We’ve got so many amazing women across Norfolk doing incredible things so we’re celebrating them across the month of March. We also have our own inspirational women who work within Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, and we're shining the light on them too.
What one piece of career advice would you give to the 20 year-old you?
Be less like them and more like you.
Who is your female role model?
Well, that’s easy! It’s got to be my Mum. She taught me so much and continues to support me every day (mostly with panicked phone calls about energy prices). Raising me as a single parent, she taught me the importance of hard work and building a career, whilst not being afraid to admit vulnerability and accept help.
What was your career goal when you were young?
I very much considered becoming the tooth fairy until I was old enough to realise that I didn’t want to work nights. To be honest, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, I still don’t. I’m ever-changing, as is my career.
What’s your biggest career achievement to date?
My biggest career achievement has to be co-founding GEN-E, our highly successful networking event for young professionals. I’ve loved building this from concept through to reality, and can’t wait to continue its growth.
What have your biggest challenges been as a woman in business?
I think my biggest challenge has been speaking out against sexism and misogyny in male-dominated office environments. You always think that you’ll feel empowered to do so, but in reality, it can be very daunting. There is a fine line between workplace banter and making people feel uncomfortable.
