International Women’s Day is back on the 8th March 2022 and celebrates women across the world. This year the theme is #BreakTheBias.
We’ve got so many amazing women across Norfolk doing incredible things so we’re celebrating them across the month of March. We’ve also got some inspirational women who work within Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, and we're shining the light on them too.
We asked Norfolk Chamber Member, Zoe Gabriele a few questions...
Why is supporting women in business so important?
Although times are changing it is still relatively slow when you look at the number of women at board level. I have operated in a male-dominated industry for 30 years and have always found being a woman more of an advantage than a disadvantage, but I am not saying at times it hasn’t been a struggle.
What do you or your business do to support women in your teams?
I am a member of women in construction, and I positively accommodate flexible working across my whole team not just the females I have 15 staff currently 5 of which are women.
What skills do you feel are the biggest asset that women have in the workplace?
Their ability to read people, their creativity, and organisation.
What challenges do women face in the workplace that are different to men?
Assumptions that they may not know how to help.
What advice would you give to male colleagues to support women in the workplace?
Be yourself but don’t treat them with kid gloves.
What top tips would you give your younger self when it comes to business?
If you don’t know don’t blag it say so, go away and find out.
