Centre 81 is a Great Yarmouth-based charity that operates a Skills & Activities Centre for adults with a range of disabilities, plus a Community Transport Service for people who are unable access traditional public transport. Thanks to the introduction of secure ‘bubbles’, the centre has been able to remain open throughout Covid restrictions. Members who couldn’t attend were contacted regularly and many had shopping and prescriptions collected for them.
The charity is close to achieving a long-held ambition to move to more spacious accommodation and next summer will relocate to Yare House in Morton Peto Road, which it is adapting to create a state-of-the-art facility for disabled people. The new centre will open as Centre 81 celebrates its 40th anniversary, and will enable the charity to support more members and their family carers, securing its future for decades to come.
