The Clare School is a complex needs school for pupils with medical and physical disabilities. 95% of our pupils have life-limiting or life-threatening medical conditions. 80% of our pupils are non-verbal and wheelchair users. We have pupils who attend school that use ventilators, pupils who have Do Not Resuscitate Plans (DNACPR) in place and pupils who are receiving end of life care or palliative care. Our school is the oldest special needs school in Norfolk – approaching 100 years old in 2026. We are a four times outstanding school rated by Ofsted. Our aim is to ensure we are providing some of Norfolk’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils with the very best education and experiences possible, especially those children who have such short lives.
Currently, Care for Clare, our school charity, is aiming to raise enough money to purchase more wheelchair accessible bikes. We believe that riding your bike as a family is a ‘rite of passage’, something which all our pupils should be able to experience. However, an accessible, adapted bike costs £8000. We already have one bike, but we want to purchase another three or four bikes, so that our families can borrow them and go bike riding together, just like everyone else is able to do.
