Norfolk Blood Bikes is a Registered Charity run and operated by unpaid volunteers, providing a free of charge, out of hours, rapid response medical transport service. We transport blood & blood products, medical equipment, Covid test samples & other medical samples and donated breast milk, for the benefit of all NHS patients. It is carried out between 19.00 and 07.00, every night of the year and during daytime weekends and Bank Holidays.
There are 11 main beneficiaries in Norfolk. The 3 main NHS Hospitals plus 6 community hospitals. The East Anglian Air Ambulance with daily supplies of blood, thirdly, the collection & delivery of Donated Breast Milk from donating mums to the Regional Milk Bank hub in Hellesdon Hospital or to the NICU’s from the Milk Bank
Our volunteers never know who the patient is, but they know that the patient may be having the worst day of their lives. The weather conditions are irrelevant. Our motto is, “We’ll go no matter what”. We know that what we deliver, can and does save lives. More recently, we delivered urgent blood for a stab victim, another delivery was for a patient in theatre needing large quantities of blood and platelets.
