The History of Advertising Trust is the largest archive of brand communication in the world and was founded in Ravenigham, Norfolk in 1976. As an educational charity it promotes brand heritage, preserving the past, capturing the present and inspiring the future. Its ad collections feature some of the country’s most memorable brands, representing society from the first to the fifth industrial revolutions, with early advertisers and iconic campaigns including Pears Soap, Bovril, Hovis, Fry’s, Guinness, Smash, PG Tips, Cinzano, Hamlet, Smirnoff and, locally in Norfolk, Colman’s and Start-rite. As the Trust aims for self-sustainability it will continue to earn income from managing collections on behalf of brand owners and agencies, providing a research and library footage service and creating a resource for professional development and brand leadership. New income streams will sweat the assets through licensing, publishing and merchandising. HAT is a founding member of the Norwich cluster, promoting the city as a leading UK hub in terms of agency creativity, employment and brand leadership.
