During what was a really challenging year for the Poppy Appeal, East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston took on the role of the coordinator for Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, the third biggest fundraising area in the region, which raises tens of thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion every year.
EN is thought to be the only college in the country to take on the responsibility of organising and running a poppy appeal for a full region and was incredibly proud to support the legion and the local community. The Poppy Appeal raises vital funds for members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. The support they offer starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over. Deputy Principal, Dr Simon Fox, said, “We were incredibly proud to take on this role for the local community. As a College, we are always looking at ways to develop our role within the community. As the only Sixth Form College in the country with a Combined Cadet Force, there is a natural synergy for us to be involved with an appeal that is intrinsically linked with supporting veterans and their families in the armed forces. The role we have taken on is critical and to be the first school or college anywhere in the UK to fulfil this responsibility is something we are very proud of. Our cadets and wider student community have been involved in leading the fundraising efforts, learning valuable skills and gaining a wider knowledge of what the appeal does and why it is still so important after so many years.”
